KITCHEN MEDICINE: Food Cures &
Remedies

Since
ancient times people have used herbal remedies to treat many common ailments.
Instead of going to the store they go into the field or forest to gather their
remedies. Many have cultivated their own medical plants on their land or
yard. Those days may seem long gone however it is closer than you think.
There are
many items in your own refrigerator or garden that you may have not known of
their medicinal value so I have selected a few common items with a list of
common ailments that will benefit from its usage.

Star anise: Hernia, abdominal pain, low back pain & vomiting.

Sweet basil: Common cold headaches, diarrhea, indigestion,
stomachache, irregular menstruation.

Cinnamon bark: Cold limbs, abdominal pain, diarrhea, hot sensations
in the upper body with cold sensations in the lower body.

Garlic: Cold abdominal pain, edema, diarrhea, dysentery and
whooping cough.

Fresh ginger: Common cold, vomiting, cough, asthma & diarrhea.
-
Spearmint: Common cold, cough, headache, abdominal pain & menstrual
pain.

Rosemary: Headache.

Licorice: Abdominal pain, stress, poor appetite, fatigue, fever,
cough, palpitations, sore throat, drug & food poisoning.

Apple: Indigestion, low blood sugar, morning sickness (pregnancy),
chronic enteritis.

Banana: Constipation, hemorrhoids, hypertension & alcoholism.

Fig: Enteritis, dysentery, constipation, hemorrhoids, sore throat &
diarrhea.

Grape: Blood and energy deficiency, cough, palpitation, night
sweat, rheumatism, difficulty urinating & edema.

Grapefruit: Indigestion, bad breath from intoxication, poor
appetite during pregnancy.

Grapefruit peel: Chest congestion, mucus discharge, cough &
intoxication.

Guava: Diarrhea, diabetes & hemorrhoids.

Lemon: Cough with mucus, indigestion, diabetes & laryngitis.

Plum: Liver disease, diabetes & ascites.

Watermelon: Diminished urination (diuretic), sore throat & mouth
canker sores.

Walnut: Cough, low back pain, impotence, frequent urination, kidney
& bladder stones & constipation.

Peanut: Dry cough, upset stomach, beriberi, poor milk secretion
after childbirth.

Carrot: Chronic diarrhea, cough, indigestion & difficult urination.

Celery: Hypertension, dizziness & headache.

Cucumber: Sore throat, pink eyes, inflammation & burns.

White bulb of green onion: Headache, abdominal pain, constipation,
suppression of urine & dysentery.

Potato: Lack of energy, low blood sugar & mumps.
-
Shitake (black) mushrooms: Immune dysfunction, hypertension, anemia
& measles.
